On 4/3/2024, the Deputy Minister of Planning and the Head of the Census Operations Chamber in the Kurdistan Region supervised the first meeting of the General Population Census Operations Chamber in the office of the Ministry of Planning in Erbil. The purpose of this meeting was to present the latest preparations in Iraq and the start of the Kurdistan Region after the recent developments in terms of agreement on sending part of the budget allocated for the census in the region based on 12.67% of the total budget The trainers were trained in February 2024 in Baghdad with the participation of the Kurdistan Regional Statistical Board. The meeting lasted about 2 hours and discussed the next steps, especially the work of the Geographical Information Department to determine the boundaries of the administrative units and distribute them according to blocks after receiving aerial images from the Iraqi Statistical Board with the start of coordination between the heads of census teams in the Kurdistan Regional Statistical Board with their counterparts in the Iraqi Statistical Board. They also discussed how to prepare a census data center in the Kurdistan Region similar to the Iraqi center so that the data can be sent to Erbil and Baghdad at the same time when the field work starts. In the last meeting of the Iraqi High Census Board held at the end of July 2023, the initial decision was made that November 20, 2024 will be the first day of the census, which will continue for the following days.
